So, yeah, AMS# 700 came out recently.

Really, the idea itself isn't in and of itself a bad idea. I mean, it's a bodyswap story. We've seen this before, and I hardly think this switch is permanent. Hell, I don't even think it'll last a year.

I really don't think Spider-Man is going to be gone forever. This really doesn't fit with Slott's "mega story" of insisting that Peter Parker is essential to Spider-Man and it's Peter who makes Spidey, Spidey. Of course, this seems to be trying to disprove an argument no one is really making, and shows the disconnect the creators have with the fans. The fans are arguing that Spider-Man has been stuck in a rut and will never progress, not that Peter isn't essential to the role.

Problem that I have with it is the marketing, and how it's presented as not only something we're supposed to be on board with, but that it's apparently permanent. Now, I get wanting to promote the comic and trying to hide upcoming developments from fans to promote interest. But there are good ways to do this and actually encourage interest, and then there's treating the fans like they're morons and assuming that they can't see through the really painful lies the creators are spewing.

Not only that, but the story- as I pointed out, hopefully- doesn't really hold up in regards to the other tragedies seen in comics. The message is extremely confused- we're supposed to be sad that Peter "died," but OK with the guy who stole his body, his life and is responsible for his murder carrying on his legacy.

In addition to that, the one element that a LOT of fans have been waiting for- Peter and MJ getting back together- is shunted to the background for this story. Kind of seems like burying the lead, and really another example of Marvel and Spider-Man's creators misreading the customer base.

Oh, and thanks to Xenon and Stillanerd over at CBR for helping me out with this piece. Unless you're looking for plausible deniability, in which I am cool with you denying any and all involvement with this project.

A question, what would you describe Doc Ock's character, BEFORE they fucked it up?
