The Clan Destine

Description

I am a HUGE fan of Alan Davis' artwork, and one of his more notable creations were the Clan Destine.

Theirs was an interesting concept.  It wasn't like an average superhero group.  It was a family, with various individuals with different personalities and motivations.

Adam, the father, was an immortal being, mourning the loss of not only his wife and his son, but his connection to humanity, his long life and invulnerability making him emotionally distant from all around him.  Hex was plagued by his enhanced senses, a life of solitude being the only means of dealing with the sensory overload.  Kuckoo had no problems using her abilities for her own ends, and thought that superheroics were more a fun "diversion" than a real calling.  Whallop had incredible strength and durability, but came at the cost of an enhanced rage that could turn him into an out of control monster.  Argent was more comfortable in her metal armor, with the touch of flesh repulsing her.  The Crimson Crusader and Imp were the only two who wanted to be conventional heroes, which drove a lot of the conflict with the rest of their family who just wanted to hide and live out their lives in peace.

As I said, it was an intriguing premise.  However, I can understand why it may not have taken off.  The art was amazing, but the storyline was fairly conventional.  It was standard superhero fair, but with just a few tweaks here and there to make it stand out.  And the interpersonal family dynamic may not have appealed to an audience that was looking for more conventional superhero stuff.

Still, I like the premise, I LOVE the art, and the character designs and motivations of the characters still remain interesting to me.

It is really nice to see this family again!

Alan Davis really know how to write and draw a quirky group- and you have captured his spirit really well.
