Spider-Man + The Flash = The Scarlet Speedster

Parker Allen was just an ordinary High School student, until one day while attending a science fair during a terrible rainstorm, a bolt of lightning struck a rack of chemicals next to Parker, engulfing him in a strange concoction.  Afterwards, Parker discovered he could move at incredible speeds.  Initially using his powers for his own gain, Parker learned that with his great powers must also come great responsibility when he inadvertently let a criminal go that later murdered his Uncle.  Parker took on the identity of the Scarlet Speedster to use his powers to help others and bring criminals to justice.  Graduating High School, Parker now works as a police scientist, and tries to balance his crime fighting duties while maintaining a relationship with his partner, Mary Jane West.

I loved the concept of Amalgam as a kid.  The notion of blending Marvel and DC heroes together was just a fun concept, rife with possibilities.  And while I loved the initial offering, I couldn't help feeling that the choices made weren't the strongest blending of concepts.  Character concepts seemed smashed together randomly in a lot of cases, rather than finding the concepts that were truly similar.  Spider-Boy, for example, seemed more like Superboy with Spider-Powers than a blending of concepts.

To me, Spider-Man and the Flash are the most similar characters from Marvel and DC.  Both are scientific prodigies, fighting down to earth bad guys with common criminal motivations.  Both have an extensive rogue's gallery.  Both try to use their brains to beat the bad guy rather than fisticuffs.  And both were known for their romantic lives as much as their costumed ones.  Heck, both heroes even got married, only to have said marriages later broken up by BS mystical retcons so they could be hooked up with boring, second string Mary-Sue love interests that no one is interested in (Sorry, sorry.  I'm not bitter.) So, for me, a mixture of Spidey and the Flash was something that was so natural I'm surprised no one else has seen it before now.
