Description

While I am a fan of the medium, the one thing that I think Tokustatsu is lacking is a strong female presence.  Granted, I understand that the series are marketed to young boys, and it is being produced in a country that still has a strong divide between what is appropriate for girls and what is appropriate for boys, with there not being much in the way of a consideration of the crossover audience or trying to appeal to people outside the base.  Still, I feel that women are underrepresented in toku action, so I thought I'd take my own stab at the concept.  Although I will admit that I couldn't resist making the end result a little "girly" on it's own, with a major theme with the character being rainbows.

The main influences with this character design were the characters of Cutey Honey and Shadow Lady- female characters that depended upon a lot of form changes in their adventures.  Since that is also a feature of a lot of Tokusatsu series, I thought I'd have that as the base for this character as well.  She would have several different forms that she could access in her battles, all based around the seven colors of the rainbow, plus this initial eighth and "Base" form.

Another thing that I wanted to incorporate with this design is that in tokusatsu productions, there is usually a blending of various and unrelated concepts.  For example, Kamen Rider Gaim has the themes of locks, fruit and samurai.  That is one of the most extreme, but it does go back to the fact that certain aspects are blended together that may not normally fit, but help with a consistent theme of branding throughout the production.  So for this character, with the rainbow theme as it's base, I decided to make the theme based on locks and keys prominent as well, since I saw her main method of transformation being "Chroma-Keys" that would unlock her other forms.  Yes, it's a bad pun, but it comes with the territory in these sort of things.

Another aspect I included was animal based forms, which again helped with design.  I haven't laid out what the other form changes would be, but for this one I decided to go with a swan theme, seen most prominently with the helmet.  It's not overly dominant, but I wanted to keep it in line with other toku designs where such designs are a more subtle influence rather than an ornate one.  I'm also proud of the rainbow scarf and the key shaped sword, as I think they help add flavor to the design.

Again, this is one I might come back to.  I still need to design her other seven forms.  I dabbled with the idea of doing them with this series, but I had difficulty coming up with her base design, along with the other looks for the other Toku heroes that I decided to leave it be for the moment and just focus on getting her initial look down right.

One more thing, what is the orign of the character? Or how did she get the bracelet/object that allowed her to transform into Chromia?
