Gorrr the Galaxy Slayer

Kirby. 

If you are a comic book fan, all you need to say is that one word and people instantly know who you are talking about.  The name along invokes images of larger than life heroes, bold dynamic action and powerful page layouts.  He was the only creator who aptly lived up to the title "King."  If you love comic books and comic book art, you have to respect the man and his legacy, in one form or another.

So with this next set of OCD's, I wanted to evoke the image and style of Jack "King" Kirby.  Now, a lot of artists have tried to ape Kirby's drawing style before.  But what I really love about the guy is his insane, over the top, incredibly creative character designs.  Monsters that look hideous and menacing.  Villains that look strange and weird and off.  Heroes that are barrel chested and bombastic.  Too many people try to make characters just look as if Kirby drew them.  I'd prefer to make characters that look as if Kirby would design them. 

First off is GORRR, the GALAXY SLAYER!!!  A traditional Kirby monster a la' Mangog or any of the other monsters created during the monster craze of the 50's.  What I really loved about Kirby's designs in those characters that have a large head where their torso should be.  Characters like Modok or Arnim Zola.  Hence the design of GORRR!!! Plus, I also wanted to give him that layered, scaly look that were popular amongst monster characters back then. 

As for who Gorrr is, I see him as one of those classic "Monsters older than time," summoned from the depths of space to wreak terrible havoc across the world.  I saw him more as one of those "Name comes first, design comes second" sort of characters, with very little thought to his backstory other than "Big, mean, and powerful."
