Spider-Man and Marvel- Then and Now

So, the big news regarding Spider-Man today has been pretty much this: www.spidermancrawlspace.com/20…

And, I have to say, and I am of divided feelings on it.

One one hand, yes, it's nice to see the studios trying to do their best to make really good Spider-Man movies again.  On the other hand, I'm not of the mindset that Marvel can do no wrong.  Yes, we might get a Spider-Man film on the same level of quality as Winter Soldier.  Or we could get the same quality as Thor: The Dark World or Iron Man 3.

On one hand, this means that Joe Quesada could have greater creative control over the character again.  On the other, this also means Brian Bendis and Joss Whedon have a say.

We might have to suffer through another origin story for Spider-Man.  Or we could get a "soft reboot" that actually moves the story forward in a significant way.

It's really too early to say.

But what we can say at this point is that there have already been casualties.  Andrew Garfield, for one, is most likely not going to be back for a third go.  Which is sad, given how people really seemed to respond to him in the role.  And despite all the hype Marvel generated for the films in their "Phase Three" announcements, it seems no surprise that the next Thor, and the Inhumans, Black Panther and Captain Marvel films are pushed back to make way for Marvel's flagship character.

Oh, how quickly do one's favors change.

So, we'll have to wait and see where this goes.  This could end up a trainwreck, or it could finally right the course with the character and franchise to get things back on track.
